Here are 3 tips a homeowner should consider if they sense foreclosure is looming:

1. DON’T IGNORE NOTICES
Open the letters that are delivered.  Read the emails that are sent.
Throwing away notices sent by your mortgage lender can mean missed:
• deadlines,
• interest changes, and
• opportunities for negotiation. 

 

 

2. SCHEDULE A MEETING
Sitting down with your loan officer can convey an entirely different message from a reply email. You get to control the tone, the message that you are conveying when another person can hear your voice and see you in person.  Don’t allow fear and suspected judgement to hold you back from a face-to-face meeting that can help you save your home.

 

 

3. REFLECT
When did everything start to make a downward turn?
Was a key income source halted?
Did a joint mortgagor pass away?
The quickest way to halt associated worry and anxiety is to located its source.
Once you can identify the source, you can start to identify resolutions.
Remember to also reflect on what did work to help you stay on top of (or, even ahead) of your payments.
